Frequently Asked Questions
Q: WHAT IS MICROBLADING?
A: Microblading, also known by other names such as Eyebrow Embroidery and Stranding; and a variety of forms: 3D, 6D and Shading is a form of permanent make-up that partially or fully camouflage missing eyebrow hair to create definition, to cover gaps of lost hair, to extend the eyebrows, or may be used as a full reconstruction if there is little/no hair. The lasting effect is targeted for 18-24 months. Over time, the strokes can blur and fade and will need to be refreshed.
Q: HOW IS IT DONE?
A: The procedure starts with cleansing/sanitizing the area, followed by the measurement and drawing of the outline in proportion with the face. After the client approves the outline, a topical anesthetic is applied to numb the area. The actual procedure is done by making fine incisions on the skin, individual tattoo strokes to deposit pigment superficially in the upper region of the dermis. Sterile, disposable micro needles is used to implant the pigments.
Q: IS IT PAINFUL?
A: The most frequently asked question of all! The pain level for the procedure is considered mild to none. Everyone responds differently to anesthetic; depending on the client. The feeling is described as light scratches to not feeling anything. Almost always, the clients sleep the entire procedure.
I’m quite surprised to hear feedback from others who experienced pain when they had their brows microbladed by a different artist/technician. It could be that the anaesthetic was not properly used, or sadly, the one who performed the procedure is a beginner. What you need is someone who is more experienced so that the procedure will be done right on time before the lasting effect of the anesthetic fades.
Q: HOW LONG DOES THE PROCEDURE TAKE?
A: Much of the time is spent measuring and drawing on a symmetrical set of brows and agreeing on your perfect shape and color. Waiting for the anesthetic cream to numb takes 45 minutes, while the actual procedure itself takes 45mins to an hour.
Q: WHY IS THE TOUCH UP SESSION NECESSARY?
A: Everyone will heal differently and outcome will vary. Certain areas may not pick up during first session and will need to be refilled. Pigment color may need to be adjusted, brow thickness and more strokes can be added. The touch up is included in your service. Without it, the results will not be optimal. Color will fade significantly within 4 weeks as the skin heals, peels and fades. The touch up corrects any irregularities in the microbladed hair strokes, color tones and finishes the process.
Q: HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO HEAL?
A: The eyebrow area will be slightly red after the procedure. In the following days, the eyebrows will be dark and you will notice slight scabbing and patching. This is normal and part of the healing process. The color will fade by up to 40% as it heals. It takes approximately 7-14 days for the brows to heal over, and about 1 month for the color to fully set in. You'll notice the color is very light right after the two weeks after healing; the skin will have an opaque, milky looking quality to it. This is known as the milk skin and is common in tattooing. This is due to the tissue still healing from the inside out even though the surface of the skin is healed. True color will reveal itself once healed.
Q: CAN I GET MY TOUCH UP SESSION SOONER THAN 4 WEEKS?
A: Touch up sessions should not be done earlier than 4 weeks after initial microblading session as pigment color has not fully settled into the skin. Most importantly, this is to prevent skin damage as the tissue requires time to completely heal.
Q: HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?
A: Since microblading pigments are not implanted into the skin as deep as traditional tattoos, the area will naturally fade over time. It typically lasts 18-24 months, depending on skin type(normal, oily, dry), age (youthful/mature). Skincare routine will also affect the lasting effect of the pigment: patients who uses whitening products, exfoliate, fade faster as your skin will resurface faster. Each individual's color retention within the skin will vary. Clients can let the microbladed area fade over time, but please note a slight shadow may remain.
